The Rhythm of Rain

The sky is overcast with dark clouds spread out like a huge carpet on a blue canvas . Birds call out loudly in the whistling wind as they fly away to the safety of their nest- the cozy little home that they have put together with twigs , leaves and lots of love . The leaves on the trees are doing a merry dance to the tune of the whistling wind, but the traffic on the road is ambling along at a slow pace , completely oblivious to nature’s flurry of activity . The roads are full of people - some who hurry along with a sense of urgency and others who stroll leisurely and watch life go by .

Then it happens ….the skies open up -just a bit at first , letting out a few drops drizzle down on to parched land. A few passers by look up at the overcast skies while a few others scramble for their umbrellas and then there are those who go by nonchalantly-the ones for whom getting wet is all in a day’s work !

Soon the rain gathers pace and starts to fall in a rhythm that gets faster and faster . The land is drenched , the buildings washed clean as the wipers on the cars swish about rapidly from left to right and back, failing in its desperate attempt to keep the deluge at bay. The world is shrouded in a colour of grey. What follows are drumrolls of thunder interspersed with lightning - nature’s answer to fireworks out in full display . The sound of silence lays thick amidst the rhythm of the falling rain .

Then, as slowly as it began , the intensity of the rain starts to ebb letting out tiny glimpses of the blue sky beneath the shroud of dark clouds .

Soon, the patter of raindrops is replaced with the noise of everyday life , as the skies take on a  cheery blue hue! Life goes on , albeit a lot refreshed after the interlude of rain .

    1. Thank you Varsha madam . I had included the image of an artwork from Padmaragha madam's online class, but it did not get uploaded when i copy pasted onto blogger. May be compatibility issues . I should probably use word instead of pages next time. I will show the original piece in class today
