The Baggage

Emotion- it is a seven letter word that has the power to shape a person for better or for worse , the power to define a personality so completely that it impacts every single relationship that a person has or the lack of it . So what are emotions and why do they hold such power over us ? Emotions are state of mind brought on as a response to an event . When you come home after a long day at school or work and find your favourite snack on the table, you feel delighted . This is the kindergarten version of an explanation of the concept of emotion . It just goes to prove that we start to experience emotions as soon as we are born . Emotions that are simple when we are children become increasingly complex as we grow older and weave a web of experiences in our interactions and define the person that we become . So why is this such a complicated thing? Probably because every single human being is governed by his or her emotion which in turn impacts the interaction with others . It is, in e...

The Rhythm of Rain

The sky is overcast with dark clouds spread out like a huge carpet on a blue canvas . Birds call out loudly in the whistling wind as they fly away to the safety of their nest- the cozy little home that they have put together with twigs , leaves and lots of love . The leaves on the trees are doing a merry dance to the tune of the whistling wind, but the traffic on the road is ambling along at a slow pace , completely oblivious to nature’s flurry of activity . The roads are full of people - some who hurry along with a sense of urgency and others who stroll leisurely and watch life go by . Then it happens ….the skies open up -just a bit at first , letting out a few drops drizzle down on to parched land. A few passers by look up at the overcast skies while a few others scramble for their umbrellas and then there are those who go by nonchalantly-the ones for whom getting wet is all in a day’s work ! Soon the rain gathers pace and starts to fall in a rhythm that gets faster and faste...

It Fits !!

When was the last time that you found a perfect dress online -one that you believed was made for you and was available in your size too . One that costed all of the remaining balance in your Paytm wallet but you decided to order it nevertheless and when it was finally delivered , much to your   chagrin , it did not fit you ! When was the last time that you went clothes shopping to your favourite store and observed people with a normal build picking out clothes from the plus size section ! These are instances that many of us identify with because it is that common . The need to look good and prefer certain textures , colours and type of clothing to achieve the desired look is probably as old as the invention of clothes itself . After all, there is an entire , hugely profitable industry that is built to cater to this need- the fashion industry- an industry that has the power to make a lasting impact on our psyche in more ways than one. Many of us love to sport clothing bra...

The Full Circle

It was a typical January night in Salem, Massachusetts and Sandra was feeling lonely and gloomy . As part of her research work at the university , Sandra was writing a thesis on the Salem witch hunt and all her reading came back to haunt her, creating terrifying images in her head. She thought she heard some rustling noise of dry leaves in the garden , but how could that be when there was four inches of snow outside ? It was freezing outside so she decided to stay indoors. She was scared to step outside in the dark but she could not get over the feeling that something creepy was hiding in the garden .She started to pace up and down to calm her  fear when she felt something damp beneath her feet . She was terrified to see patches of blood . She wanted to scream out loud but her voice remained stuck in her throat . Sandra woke up sweating from head to toe .The familiar nightmare that gave her sleepless nights since her childhood was back and this time it was back with a vengeance ....

Seat of Learning

It is that time of the year again, when schools are poised to re-open after the summer break . This June is going to be a special one as most schools in the country are going to re-open fully for physical classes after the two year shake up because of the pandemic . This time of the year is also particularly special for those students who are starting Grade 1. After all it is about new beginnings that have been made possible by years of planning , research and meticulous execution by the busiest species on our planet- Parents! and I know all about this because I have a ringside view to this happening event .My little sister will be starting First grade in June 2023 and my parents are bang smack in the middle of meticulous research; have come up with a list of options and have started talking to schools .If you are privy to project Stellar Kids, you will be aware that the ground work of research and shortlisting of schools to apply in begins during prenatal counseling and planning. My p...

The World on Four Wheels

Travel is my passion - the thing that makes my world go round . More often than not , the joy lies not just in the destination but also in the journey itself . Every single journey has given me tons of memories that have shaped my understanding of our beautiful world and its inhabitants who come in many different shapes , colours and personalities, quirks included . I just got back from a getaway at a coffee estate in Chikmagalur . The driver of the car that we hired was an interesting character , possibly bipolar , who drove the car like a bullock cart until we reached the nearest petrol bunk.  I was quite sure I saw a couple of pedestrians overtake our car . Once we reached the petrol bunk, the driver insisted on filling the diesel and the air all by himself , lest the attendant touches his precious Kohinoor of a car . Once he was done , the other side to his personality emerged . He started to drive like a madman on steroids . I had my doubts about our reaching the destination w...

Sameera- Aha!!

Sameera was probably the most stylish nine year old that you will have the fortune of knowing. A fashionista in the making, born diva and drama queen were some of her most common aliases. Always dressed to nines, albeit in sleeveless dresses, Sameera was a sight for the sore eyes. She was a textbook example of an organized person and an epitome of perfection . When Sameera was three, she hated playing in sand and getting her clothes and hands messy , a lot unlike her twin brother Shaurya, who was a stinky bundle of mess rolling in sand. She hated finger painting because the paint felt icky to touch. She was literally just the kind of child that every stressed-out young parent wished they had - after all she was always neat and clean and kept her clothes and toys neatly too - a lot unlike Shaurya whose toys were broken and clothing smudged with paint. By the time Sameera was six, she could eat with the perfection of someone who had topped her class in finishing school. However it ...
